Bas van der Schot (1970) is a political cartoonist and illustrator, based in Amsterdam and Berlin. His political cartoons appear three times a week in the Dutch daily newspaper de Volkskrant. His work is distributed abroad via Courrier International, Cartoonists & Writers Syndicate and Cagle.

After finishing my studies at the University of Amsterdam (political science) my cartoons have been published in several Dutch daily newspapers and magazines. Since 2011 I work as an editorial cartoonist for de Volkskrant, the largest quality newspaper in the Netherlands.I like clear, simple drawings as an antidote to the daily overload of news, opinions and images. My ideal is the directness of a children’s drawing. Political cartoons don’t change the world, but I am happy with every reader who identifies with a drawing of mine.
